Harinder Sandhu

Harinder Sandhu, Senior Partner at Touchstone Group, is a distinguished Investment Manager and Financial Analyst with an extensive 29-year career in global investment management. His expertise spans sustainable investment strategies, financial analysis, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) integration, and portfolio management. Over the course of his career, Harinder has worked with leading financial institutions such as Man Group, Société Générale, UBS, LGPS Central, and River and Mercantile Group, managing multi-billion-dollar portfolios and delivering impressive returns for blue-chip clients including GSK, ICI, Coca-Cola, and Siemens.

Mr Harinder Sandhu Story

Harinder’s early career at UBS Global Asset Management laid the foundation for his success, where he headed the Specialist UK Equity Products division, managing £1.5 billion in assets and delivering strong returns for clients. He played a key role in launching the UBS UK Smaller Companies Fund, which saw a 7% relative return over five years. Additionally, he co-launched the UBS Pan European Smaller Companies Fund, which was one of the first institutional funds in London. His leadership in managing UK institutional and retail funds with a combined AUM of £5 billion earned him recognition as the originator of the best-performing UK equity fund in 2003, with a return of +50%, 29% above the FT All-Share.

At Société Générale Asset Management, Harinder was appointed as Head of UK Equities, where he led a team of eight and managed funds for institutional clients, including Pennon and Hampshire County Council. His ability to consistently outperform market benchmarks, coupled with his experience in corporate governance and ESG-focused strategies, set him apart in the investment management sector.

A key milestone in Harinder's career came with his role as Director of ESG and Sustainability at Shore Capital Markets, where he founded the Shore Capital Sustainable Advisory Group. Here, he advised public and private companies on ESG strategy, carbon markets, climate risk frameworks such as the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and strategies for achieving net-zero commitments. Harinder's in-depth research on carbon pricing, carbon credits, and investment opportunities in both mandatory and voluntary carbon markets has significantly shaped the development of sustainable investment strategies.

In his time at River and Mercantile Group, Harinder directed corporate ESG efforts and led the integration of responsible investment strategies across global equity portfolios. He chaired the Group ESG Committee, which oversaw ESG policy initiatives, regulatory reporting, and the development of sustainable investment strategies for fiduciary clients, with a particular focus on energy companies and renewable energy investments.

During his tenure as Senior Portfolio Manager at LGPS Central, Harinder was responsible for managing $7 billion in global equities and regional funds, implementing new investment philosophies and risk management strategies. He was also instrumental in launching new fund products, particularly those focused on sustainable and responsible investment strategies, and helped achieve substantial cost savings and risk-adjusted returns for local authority pension funds under management.

Outside of traditional investment management, Harinder has shown a keen interest in the emerging field of impact investing and private equity. He served as CEO of East African Packaging in Addis Ababa, where he led the development of sustainable investment projects in the East African property, healthcare, and consumer packaging sectors. Under his leadership, the company achieved an internal rate of return (IRR) of 25%, with a $50 million capital raise and a successful two-year build-out for its packaging facility.

In addition to his financial expertise, Harinder is deeply involved in advising companies on corporate governance, shareholder engagement, and investor communications. He has also contributed to several initiatives aimed at integrating sustainability into corporate strategies, including advising firms on ESG reporting and governance practices.

Harinder holds a B.Sc. (Hons) in Business Studies from Cass Business School, London, and has completed professional development in investment management. He is an Associate of the Institute of Investment Management and Research and has earned various certifications related to investment and securities. His multilingual skills in English, Punjabi, Urdu, and Hindi, combined with his strong cultural and regional knowledge, allow him to navigate complex international markets with ease. Outside of work, Harinder is passionate about collecting contemporary Indian art and is an ABA boxing coach at Level 1, reflecting his diverse interests and commitment to personal development.
